It becomes much too aggressive above 3%. When the hydrogen peroxide comes in contact with your teeth, it will start reacting right away. The chemical reaction that takes place is the hydrogen peroxide breaking down into water and oxygen. It's going to foam a little, so don't be scared. The chemical reaction breaks down the enamel that grows over your teeth. In doing so, the reaction reveals places where bacteria reside but where you previously could not reach with your brush. Brushing your teeth will now be much more effective!

Secondly, let's talk about the baking soda. Because this soda is a little bit abrasive, it can give your teeth a good scrubbing. Your teeth are still harder than the soda, so there is no risk of damaging your teeth. Baking soda will also kill off some micro organisms, thereby reducing the risk of getting irritated gums or other mouth diseases. The soda will also neutralize certain types of acid that contribute to plaque formation on your teeth. The magic happens when you combine both the peroxide as well as the baking soda into one. Get a small cup and put a few drops of the hydrogen peroxide in it. Then add a big spoon of baking soda. Stir it around a little until you get a paste. Now brush your teeth with this paste for a few minutes and be sure to reach everywhere.

So, if you think that you can just pick up a box of baking soda for less than $1 and start getting whiter teeth, this probably isn't the case. Back in days before real toothpaste was available, many people used it to brush their teeth, but it's not a great option for tooth whitening today.
